All five Sports which will be included in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sports program (Baseball/Softball, Karate, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing and Surfing) are ARISF Members and ARISF, the organization assembling 35 International Federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee, is proud of actively contributing to achieving the objectives of the Olympic Agenda 2020.
The decision by the 129th IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro, fully in line with the reforms of the Olympic Agenda 2020, was defined as the most comprehensive evolution of the Olympic program in modern history.
The result was the culmination of a two-year process that began with the unanimous approval of the IOC strategic roadmap in 2014. The recommendation to give Organizing Committees the flexibility to propose new sports was intended to put more focus on innovation, flexibility and youth development in the Olympic program. The five sports are a pioneering combination of established and emerging, youth-focused events which are popular and will add value to the legacy of the Games.
The ARISF President, Raffaele Chiulli said: “ This is an historical moment. The hopes and dreams of millions of athletes around the world have now become reality. The unprecedented decision will certainly bring a younger and more innovative feeling to the Olympic program. On behalf of the entire ARISF family I would like to express our sincere thanks to the IOC and Tokyo 2020 in making this possible".
