WKF is a permanent organisation with a legal status founded on the 16th of June 1970 with the name World Union of Karate Do Organisations / WUKO and is composed by the National Karate Federations affiliated at worldwide level.

Structure

Annual General Meeting :

The WKF Congress is held every two years just one day before the beginning of the Senior Championships, in the same city.

Council, Board Meeting :

The WKF Executive Committee is composed by the President and at least 22 members, 6 of whom are permanent members-representatives of the 5 Continental Federations plus the representative of the Mediterranean Federation, and 16 elected members. The WKF President’s term in office is for 6 years while EC members term is for 4 years.

The WKF Executive Bureau is composed by the WKF President and as a minimum by the 1st Vice-President, the General Secretary and the General Treasurer.

Education

Trainers :

The WKF holds annual seminars for its Continental Federations while a new programme for further education of the trainers and issuing of an international trainers ID is on the way.

Judges/Referees :

The WKF organises annually referee courses in the Continental Federations. Apart from that, WKF also organises annually a referee course and examination prior to the World Championships. Separate licenses are given to referees for the 2 karate disciplines, kata and kumite. The qualification levels (from lower to higher) are: Kumite Judge B, Kumite Judge A, Kumite Referee B and Kumire Referee A for those qualified to officiate in kumite competition. For kata competition the qualification levels are: Kata Judge B and Kata Judge A.
